NSCDC, NCoS partner to tighten security in custodial centres

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have pledged to strengthen collaboration to enhance security at custodial centres across the state.

This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the newly deployed Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Anambra State, Controller Ezinne Emele Onuoha, to the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Maku Olatunde, at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Awka.

Speaking during the visit, Controller Ezinne stated that the purpose of the engagement was to build stronger operational synergy between both agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior.

She noted that effective management of custodial centres is critical to national security and stressed the need for sustained support, particularly in providing armed personnel to complement existing security arrangements.

“Effective custodial management, rehabilitation and reintegration efforts by the Nigerian Correctional Service are key to ensuring lasting peace, security, and social order in the state,” she added.

Responding, Commandant Maku pledged the NSCDC’s readiness to work closely with the Correctional Service.

He reaffirmed the Corps’ mandate to protect critical national assets and assured immediate support through personnel deployment and intelligence sharing where required.

The State Commandant also acknowledged the excellent working relationship previously enjoyed with the immediate past Controller of Corrections, Anambra State Command.

He described him as dependable partner and professional colleague whose support contributed immensely to inter-agency cooperation within the state.

Maku further expressed confidence that the new Controller would sustain and strengthen the existing bond between both agencies for enhanced service delivery and improved security coordination in Anambra State.

Congratulating Ezinne on making history as the first female Controller of Corrections in the state, NSCDC expressed confidence that her leadership would bring positive transformation and deepen inter-agency collaboration in the State.

He expressed sincere appreciation for her remarkable achievement and wished her a successful and impactful tour of duty.

The visit ended with both agencies agreeing to maintain regular communication to sustain a strong working relationship for improved service delivery and enhanced security in Anambra State.
