Minister of defence

Nigeria has intensified efforts to strengthen its national security architecture through advanced defence technology partnerships following a high-level strategic engagement in Monaco led by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa.

The visit, undertaken alongside senior Ministry of Defence officials, centred on ongoing discussions surrounding the proposed Multi-domain Hybrid Intelligence Shield (HIS) project involving MARSS UK Ltd and its Nigerian partner, MPS Mikopowers Ltd.

The engagement showcased Nigeria’s growing focus on adopting cutting-edge security solutions to combat evolving threats such as terrorism, piracy, illegal mining, border insecurity and the increasing use of unmanned aerial systems by criminal elements.

During the visit, the Nigerian delegation participated in technical sessions and live demonstrations featuring artificial intelligence-enabled threat detection systems, radar surveillance technology, drone interception capabilities and integrated command-and-control platforms designed to support real-time security operations.

The delegation also explored proposals for the establishment of national and regional command centres, mobile tactical response systems and a Centre of Excellence aimed at strengthening local training, simulation and doctrine development capabilities.

Blend of global and local realities

General Musa stressed the importance of combining global expertise with local operational capacity to build a more resilient and technology-driven defence structure for Nigeria.

According to him, modern security challenges require intelligence-led solutions backed by strong international cooperation and sustainable technology transfer initiatives.

He further reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging innovation and strategic alliances to enhance intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and coordinated national response mechanisms.

The visit also opened discussions on long-term defence industry collaboration, local production support and sustainable technology integration between Nigerian defence institutions and international stakeholders.

Officials of MARSS UK Ltd and MPS Mikopowers Ltd received the Nigerian delegation and presented operational demonstrations of the NiDAR integrated command-and-control system, anti-drone technologies, border surveillance solutions and mobile security platforms tailored to support Nigeria’s security objectives.

The Monaco engagement forms part of Nigeria’s broader defence diplomacy strategy aimed at boosting operational effectiveness, improving inter-agency coordination and strengthening national resilience amid emerging global security threats.
