Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has publicly declared his support for his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement came on Monday at Lagos House in Marina after a meeting involving the governor, members of the state executive council, and Hamzat, who had earlier formally announced his intention to run.
Also present at the meeting were prominent political figures, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, former minister Musiliu Obanikoro, and former senator Ganiyu Solomon.
Speaking to journalists afterward, Sanwo-Olu described his deputy as a competent and experienced leader, highlighting his performance over nearly two terms in office.
He noted that stakeholders at the meeting unanimously agreed on Hamzat’s suitability, citing his integrity, loyalty, and leadership qualities.
According to the governor, Hamzat’s strong grasp of governance and close involvement in the administration make him a natural choice to succeed him.
Sanwo-Olu also expressed pride in his deputy’s decision to contest, portraying him as a dependable partner who has consistently contributed to the state’s development.
He urged Lagos residents to support Hamzat’s ambition, emphasizing that he is well-prepared and deserving of the opportunity to lead the state.
