The Kano State House of Assembly has officially confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor after he successfully passed the screening process.

The confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of a report by an ad hoc committee during plenary, presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

The committee’s chairman and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, explained that Garo’s nomination came after the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

Bello noted that the screening was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which authorizes the Assembly to approve a nominee when a vacancy occurs.

According to the committee, Garo underwent a thorough evaluation, including a detailed question-and-answer session that assessed his academic qualifications, professional background, grasp of governance, and plans for the state.

His credentials were also carefully verified.

The committee stated that Garo showed a solid understanding of the duties of the office and outlined a practical vision to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration in achieving its goals.

Based on these findings, the committee recommended his confirmation, a motion that was unanimously adopted by the House.

Speaker Falgore then put the decision to a vote, with all members endorsing the nomination.

The Assembly also reiterated its commitment to collaborating with the executive arm to ensure good governance, accountability, and the continued development of Kano State.
