Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, have commenced investigation into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over alleged possession of a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The EFCC disclosed that Anoruo, who operates a legal and educational consultancy in Ikorodu area of Lagos, was arrested on April 20, 2026, by its operatives.
According to the commission, the suspect’s case originated from a petition he submitted to the EFCC on Sept. 22, 2025, on behalf of his clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Ltd.
Investigations, however, revealed that the petition and a subsequent letter of withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, allegedly bore a forged NBA seal.
The commission said Anoruo confessed to obtaining the seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
Further investigation showed that the 55-year-old suspect claimed to have obtained a law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka but did not attend the Nigerian Law School.
The EFCC said the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
