A woman, Oluwasola Adebayo, has reportedly slumped and died while waiting outside a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ondo State.
The incident occurred at Ilara-Mokin Junction in Ifedore Local Government Area, where the deceased had accompanied her daughter to the examination organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Eyewitnesses said the woman suddenly fell ill shortly after arriving at the centre and complained of weakness before slumping, causing panic among those around her.
They added that sympathisers made efforts to revive her, but she was confirmed dead at the scene.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Mr Jimoh Abayomi, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday in Akure, said the remains of the deceased had been released to her family after proper identification.
Abayomi said the body was handed over to one Mr Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as the deceased’s son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion in Akure.
“The family of the deceased has since been contacted and, after thorough verification, the remains were released to one Mr Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion, Akure,” he said.
He added that the command commiserated with the family and urged members of the public to remain calm.
