Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Linus Ifejirika, popularly known as Blord, has been granted bail after spending weeks in detention at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

He was remanded over allegations of criminal conspiracy, impersonation and the unauthorised use of the identity of activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Blord had been remanded since 1 April pending further proceedings initially scheduled for 27 April.

Human rights campaigner and politician Omoyele Sowore had earlier criticised the remand, describing it as an example of a justice system that can be used to oppress citizens, and vowed to secure his release.

Announcing the development on Friday, Sowore disclosed that Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted Blord bail on self-recognition.

As part of the bail conditions, the court directed the 28-year-old entrepreneur to deposit his international passport and provide two sureties of reputable standing.

He was also ordered not to make public comments regarding the case.

During the bail proceedings, counsel to VDM indicated a shift in position, informing the court of his intention to withdraw the counter-affidavit initially filed to oppose the bail application, effectively removing any objection.

Blord’s lawyer, Abubakar Marshal, acknowledged that his client had offended VDM and revealed that both parties are exploring an amicable resolution of the dispute.
