INEC adjusts campaign timeline for Osun governorship election

INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the upcoming Osun State Governorship Election.

This follows the Commission’s earlier decision on 26 February 2026 to revise the election timetable, shifting the Osun governorship poll by one week—from 8 August 2026 to 15 August 2026.

In line with this change, the deadline for political campaigns in the state has been moved. Campaign activities by political parties will now officially end at midnight on Thursday, 13 August 2026, in accordance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that campaigns must cease 24 hours before election day.

The change was contained in a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the
National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.

INEC calls on all political parties, candidates, and relevant stakeholders to comply strictly with the updated schedule.

The Commission reiterates its commitment to delivering elections that are free, fair, credible, and inclusive.
