The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, says it has rescued an unconscious middle-aged man found along the Awka-Enugu Expressway and taken him to hospital for treatment.

The Sector Public Education Officer, Mrs Margaret Onabe, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Awka.

Onabe said the victim was discovered unconscious by the roadside opposite the FRSC office, with no visible injuries on his body.

She said the rescue team arrived at the scene at about 7:35 p.m. and evacuated the victim within five minutes.

According to her, the victim was immediately taken to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, for urgent medical attention.

No Eyewitness Account

She noted that the cause of the incident remained unknown, adding that no eyewitness account was available at the scene.

Onabe further said that during a follow-up visit to the hospital on April 13, a team led by the Sector Medical and Rescue Services Officer confirmed that all other road traffic crash victims earlier admitted had been discharged.

She, however, said the rescued male adult remained unconscious.

“According to the doctor on duty, efforts to identify the victim have been unsuccessful as he has not regained consciousness and no relatives have come forward,” she said.

Onabe said the command had appealed to the hospital management to notify the FRSC immediately once the victim regained consciousness.

Swift Response

She quoted the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, as commending the swift response of the rescue team.

She reiterated the command’s commitment to prompt rescue operations, post-crash care and public enlightenment.

“Our mandate is to save lives. We urge members of the public to assist in identifying crash victims.

“They should always call our toll-free emergency line 122 to report crashes or distressed persons,” she quoted the sector commander as saying.

Onabe appealed to anyone with useful information that could help identify the victim to come forward or contact the FRSC.

She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to saving lives, public enlightenment and prompt rescue services.
