Flight operations will resume at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, on Monday, April 28, 2025.
This follows a successful completion of the emergency repairs on its runway.
The airport was shut down temporarily on April 22, 2025, following the discovery of a significant rupture at a critical section of the runway.
After that closure, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) swiftly initiated emergency repairs.
FAAN’s Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, said in a statement, that the rehabilitation works have been completed.
According to her, the runway has been cleared for landings and takeoffs.
The statement appreciated the airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the temporary closure.
It also apologizes for all inconvenience caused by the actions she noted were taken in the interest of safety.
The repairs were completed faster than expected, necessitating earlier resumption of flight operations than the initially planned reopening date of May 6, 2025.
