The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed as false a viral image circulating on social media, which claims to show a newly introduced N5,000 banknote.
The apex bank said the image, widely shared across various platforms, is fake and did not originate from the CBN.
The image had been circulated by social media users who alleged that the bank had released a sample of a N5,000 note bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, the CBN clarified that it has not introduced any new denomination and urged the public to disregard the misleading content.
The bank also advised Nigerians to rely only on official communication channels for information regarding currency issuance and other monetary policies.
It warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that such false claims could cause confusion and undermine public confidence in the nation’s financial system.
