Stakeholders from Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State have urged the newly elected President General of Umueri Community, Chijioke Nweke, to be resolute and anchor his leadership on teamwork to have successful tenure of office.
Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka and the Local Government Area chairman, Hon Ifeanyi Chinweze, gave the advice when the newly-elected exco led by Mr Nweke paid them separate courtesy visits shortly after the election.
The Electoral Committee led by Bar Ben Eugene conducted the election which took place at Our Lady’s Primary School Field, Umueri.
The committee described the exercise as peaceful.
The monarch and Council boss who congratulated Nweke for emerging as the new President General, advised him to work in cordial relationship with other members of the executive, make consultations and be an ambassador of peace in the community.
Admonition on consolidation
While encouraging him to consolidate on achievements of past executive, they underscored the importance of repositioning the community through dedicated service and development initiatives.
Nweke had in his acceptance speech, thanked the people for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to deliver in the journey to take the community to the next level.
“I will ensure peace, unity and proper development in the community.I will ensure that peace and unity is totally restored in the community,” he added.
Nweke, elected to pilot affairs of the community for a period of four years in accordance with the community’s constitution, polled a total of 237 votes to defeat his rival Chief Fidelis Okeanekwe who had 6 votes.
