A strong call for strategic collaboration to accelerate innovation and economic growth took center stage at the maiden UBS Quarterly Business Roundtable, held on March 31, 2026, at the UNIZIK Business School Hall.
The high-level forum brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and academics under the theme, “Anambra Triple Helix System: University–Industry–Government Alignment,” highlighting the urgent need for coordinated action across key sectors.
Speaking after the session, former Ambassador to Burundi, Elijah Onyeagba, stressed the importance of overhauling university curricula to reflect the realities of a fast-changing global economy. He noted that education must evolve beyond theory, equipping students with practical, future-ready skills.
Onyeagba also emphasized the vital role of the private sector in driving research and development, calling for increased industry investment. According to him, stronger funding from industry players will not only accelerate innovation but also bridge the persistent gap between academic knowledge and real-world application.
He further pointed out that Anambra’s urban-driven economy holds significant untapped potential, which can only be fully realized through deliberate collaboration among universities, industries, and government institutions.
Highlighting workforce development, Onyeagba maintained that blending academic excellence with hands-on experience is essential for preparing a competitive workforce. Such synergy, he added, will boost productivity and firmly position Anambra as a leading hub for innovation and sustainable economic growth.
