Iran has launched a missile attack on the southern Israeli city of Dimona, leaving at least 47 people injured in a sharp escalation of hostilities between the two countries.

Initial reports indicate that the intended target may have been a sensitive nuclear facility located about 13 kilometres from the city, raising concerns over the potential risks to critical infrastructure in the area.

The nearby town of Arad was also struck in the attack. Israel’s emergency response agency, Magen David Adom, confirmed that it is currently treating a large number of casualties, though the full extent of injuries is yet to be determined.

The strike comes amid heightened tensions following an earlier attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, which Tehran attributed to Israel. Iran’s atomic energy authority has, however, stated that there is no immediate danger to residents living around the Natanz site.

The exchange of strikes marks a dangerous turn in the ongoing confrontation between the two regional powers, fuelling fears of a broader conflict with significant implications for regional and global security.
