Anambra speaker to new commissioners: Be prudent in discharging your responsibilities

Anambra State House of Assembly has charged the newly confirmed commissioners to be prudent in the discharge of their duties.

Speaker, Hon Somtochukwu Udeze who gave the advice shortly after their confirmation, also urged them to ensure their decisions are targeted at improving lives of the people.

“If Anambra will be a destination, I want all of us to work together. It is a new beginning from today in the state. Leadership is a responsibility, as you assume office, it exists on the table.

“Every decision you make, you must answer the question, how does it improve the lives of the people? You have to always make yourselves accessible to the people ” Udeze said.

The speaker had earlier confirmed the 18 commissioner nominees sent to the house by Governor Chukwuma Soludo on May 4, 2026.

The list comprised second timers like  former commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor now the Information and Value Reformation, former Health commissioner, Dr Afam Obidike and Commissioner for Lands, Prof Offonze Amuchiazu, SAN

Others confirmed during plenary were Chief Ugoji Amedu for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Dr Clem Aguiyi for Environment, Dr. Ben Chuks Odoemena for Agriculture as well as Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye for Budget and Economic Planning.

The list also included Dr. Ekene Ogugua for Education, Mr. Izuchukwu Okafor for Finance, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN for Justice and Attorney-General, Barr. Vin Ezeaka for Local Government and Community and Prof. Charles Ofoegbu for Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Others were Physical Planning and Urban Development — Barr. Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu, Power — Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu, Works and Infrastructure — Arc. Okey Ezeobi, Transport — Hon. Eddy Ibuzo ,Women Affairs and Social Development — Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, and Youth Development and Sports — Mr. Patrick Agha Mba

They were confirmed exactly 3.38pm by the lawmakers, after the report presented by the screening committee led by Hon Noble Igwe, Ogbaru 1 constituency.

Responding on behalf of the commissioners, Mefor thanked the lawmakers and commended Governor Soludo for finding them worthy for the positions.

He assured not to disappoint the people of the state in their new positions.
