Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, has approved the appointment of Prof. Peter Onwualu as Chairman/Pro-Chancellor of the Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Christian Aburime.
According to Soludo, Onwualu, a professor of Agricultural Engineering, is the current Vice-Chancellor of the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja.
He is also a former Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council.
“Onwualu is a distinguished engineer and administrator with extensive contributions to agricultural and materials engineering in Nigeria.
“He brings to his new role a wealth of experience spanning academia, research and institutional leadership.
“He has served as a visiting professor at the National Universities Commission and Co-Centre Leader of the World Bank-funded Pan African Materials Institute, among other positions,”he said.
The Governor said Onwualu has authored over 200 publications and holds 10 patents, while also receiving awards from more than 70 organisations and being a fellow of 12 professional bodies.
Soludo also approved the appointment of other members of the Governing Council of the state-owned university.
They are Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, Igwe Chidiume Oranu, Prof. Josephat Ogbuagu and AIG (Rtd.) Sir Chris Ezike.
He said the new council members are expected to bring their diverse experiences to bear in strengthening the governance and academic excellence of the university.
