Cleric to Tinubu – End insecurity, fix economy to save Nigerians from hardship

Bishop

The Bishop of Kwara Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Right Reverend Sunday Adewole, has called on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive steps to tackle rising insecurity and worsening economic hardship across the country.

Speaking at the 1st Session of the 18th Synod of the Diocese in Ilorin, the cleric expressed deep concern over the growing wave of violence in Kwara State and beyond.

Adewole lamented that many victims of terrorism are reportedly targeted for resisting extremist ideologies.

He urged governments at all levels to fulfill their core responsibility of protecting lives, ensuring justice, and promoting the welfare of citizens.

He strongly condemned attacks on places of worship and the persistent cases of kidnapping.

The Bishop noted that they have disrupted livelihoods, forced school closures, and plunged families into financial distress through ransom payments.

On the economy, the Cleric called for policies that will stabilise the naira, curb inflation, and generate sustainable employment.

He stressed that corruption remains a major obstacle to national development and must be addressed with sincerity, transparency, and accountability.

Adewole further advocated for people-focused policies, insisting that intervention programmes must reach the most vulnerable.

Strengthening institutions

He highlighted the importance of strengthening institutions, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring credible elections to rebuild public trust.

Warning against division, the Bishop urged leaders to promote unity, religious tolerance, and peaceful coexistence across ethnic and regional lines.

He emphasized that every Nigerian life is sacred regardless of background.

While acknowledging efforts by the Kwara State Government in infrastructure, education, agriculture, and social welfare, he noted that significant gaps remain in rural development, healthcare, youth employment, and access to basic amenities.

He maintained that governance should be judged by its impact on grassroots communities rather than visible urban projects.

The Bishop also encouraged Christians to engage actively in politics, urging support for credible leaders based on competence rather than religious bias.
