The Anambra State Police Command has concluded a three-day orientation programme for newly decorated Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), aimed at strengthening professionalism, discipline and leadership capacity among the officers.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, says the orientation lecture held at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The programme was organized to acquaint the newly promoted officers with the expanded responsibilities, professional standards and ethical expectations associated with their new rank in the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Ngozi Ezeabata, who represented the Commissioner of Police, emphasised the need for integrity, loyalty and dedication in the discharge of policing duties.
Ezeabata urged the officers to remain guided by the principles of discipline, accountability and respect for the rule of law in their service to the public.
According to her, the orientation lectures were designed to equip the officers with the knowledge and skills required for effective policing, particularly in the areas of leadership, operational management, intelligence gathering, public relations and community policing.
She noted that these competencies are critical to improving service delivery and strengthening security operations across the state.
Induction into Officers’ Mess
As part of the programme, the newly decorated ASPs were formally inducted into the Officers’ Mess, a ceremony that symbolises their transition into the cadre of commissioned officers within the police hierarchy.
The induction also reinforced the values of camaraderie, professionalism and esprit de corps expected among officers of their rank.
The officers equally participated in the re-administration of the Oath of Secrecy, reaffirming their commitment to protecting official information and upholding the ethical responsibilities attached to their office.
The Command expressed confidence that the officers would apply the knowledge gained during the orientation to enhance policing operations and deepen community trust.
It further noted that the training forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism within the police and sustain peace and security in Anambra State.
