The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated the ban on the burning of tyres and the use of fireworks or any form of social explosives across the state during the Yuletide season, particularly during crossover night celebrations and beyond.
In a statement by Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the CP said the ban aims to protect lives and property, and maintain public order.
The ban will also prevent damage to government roads, reduce environmental hazards, and forestall security breaches that trail such activities.
Orutugu warned that the police would not tolerate burning of tyres, fireworks, knockouts, firecrackers, or any other explosive devices.
According to him, such activities pose serious risks to public safety and will not be tolerated under any guise.
He advised parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in the prohibited acts.
Orutugu threatened that security operatives will arrest and prosecute offenders in accordance with the law.
The police commissioner assured Ndi Anambra that the Command with other security agencies has intensified patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations across the state to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Yuletide celebration.
Orutugu urged residents to celebrate responsibly, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and wished Ndi Anambra a peaceful and joyous Yuletide season.
