Awka celebrates literary excellence as Obianuju Ekwughe–Azukaego launches two novels

Friends, family members, faith leaders and staff of the Anambra State Ministry of Information on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, converged on the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka, to celebrate Information Officer and author, Obianuju Ekwughe–Azukaego, at the public presentation of her two novels, Rose Petals and The Glittering Spear.

The event attracted professionals, entrepreneurs and creatives and transcended a conventional book launch, evolving into a broader conversation on the need to promote a vibrant reading culture in an era increasingly dominated by digital media.

The novels were presented as inspirational works designed to encourage young people to embrace self-discovery, resilience, hard work and integrity while navigating the challenges of contemporary society.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Osita Nwosu of the Department of Management and Planning, Abia State University, commended the author for her diligence and literary excellence.

He described the books as deserving of wide readership, urging the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, to consider recommending the novels for use in secondary schools.

Prof. Nwosu also acknowledged the author’s husband for creating a supportive environment that enabled her success and expressed confidence that the books would have lasting impact across secondary schools, universities and polytechnics.

He encouraged the author to continue writing and building a legacy.

Woman of integrity

Representing former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, Dr. Valentine Obienyem said he had known the author for over two decades, describing her as a woman of integrity, focus and diligence.

He called on the public to purchase and read the novels, expressing optimism about their positive influence on readers and society at large.

In his goodwill message, the Director in the Anambra State Ministry of Information, Pastor Emmanuel Ikegwuani, described the novels as a blessing and praised the author as one of the ministry’s outstanding staff.

He noted that the professionalism, wisdom and dedication she displays in public service are evident in her writing and recommended the books to individuals and organizations.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Dr Emeka Odogwu, expressed pride that a union member had authored the novels.

He commended the author for publishing despite prevailing economic challenges and announced plans to distribute the books among NUJ members to encourage reading and discussion.

While unveiling the books, the author’s brother, Mr Chike Ekwughe, described writing as an inborn gift in his sister.

He encouraged her to remain committed to her craft, expressing confidence that her future achievements would speak volumes.

In her remarks, Obianuju Ekwughe–Azukaego explained that the novels portray life as a demanding journey that requires courage, hope and determination.

She said the stories were written to redirect young minds from dubious shortcuts to success and instead promote patience, discipline and integrity.

The novels, which feature a foreword by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, are presented as reflections of real-life experiences and are particularly recommended for students and youths as guides to positive values and responsible living.
