The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, has commended Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade for its efforts in maintaining a clean and orderly environment in the state.
She made the commendation when she led senior officers of the corps on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Ocha Brigade, Mr. Celestine Anere, at the brigade’s headquarters in Awka.
Asekhauno said the visit was to strengthen institutional collaboration between both agencies and enhance joint strategies on road safety, traffic management and enforcement across Anambra State roads and federal highways.
She noted that illegal street trading and roadside activities contribute significantly to traffic congestion and increase the risk of road accidents.
The FRSC Sector Commander stressed the need for firm enforcement to address indiscriminate parking, road obstructions and unsafe commercial activities along highways, which she described as major threats to road safety.
Capacity building pledge
The FRSC boss also pledged the FRSC’s support in building the capacity of Ocha Brigade personnel, particularly in traffic control and road safety management.
“We are ready to train your personnel on proper traffic management and safety enforcement.
“This collaboration is crucial if we are to reduce congestion and crashes on our roads,” Asekhauno said.
According to her, the visit formed part of broader efforts to build synergy between government agencies for a safer and healthier Anambra State.
She assured that the Ocha Brigade of FRSC’s technical support to enhance enforcement and compliance.
In his response, the Managing Director of the Ocha Brigade, Mr. Celestine Anere, described the visit as a strategic engagement to deepen partnership and align operational efforts of both agencies.
“The FRSC Sector Commander visited us to familiarize herself with our operations and to discuss practical ways we can work together.
“We had extensive discussions on synergy and how to jointly decongest federal highways and state roads from street trading, illegal roadside activities and indiscriminate parking,” Anere said.
He noted that roadside trading and indiscriminate parking not only disrupt traffic flow but also pose serious safety and environmental risks to residents and road users.
Bridge Head collaboration
Anere disclosed that the Ocha Brigade and the FRSC have already been collaborating at key locations, including the Bridge Head and other critical traffic points in the state, with positive results in traffic control and compliance.
“With this renewed engagement, we are confident that our partnership will become stronger.
“Together, the Ocha Brigade and the FRSC will adopt a more coordinated approach to enforcement, road safety education and traffic management to keep Anambra State safe, clean and free from avoidable congestion,” he added.
