The Police have arrested a 49-year old man for allegedly killing his 68-year old mother in Amudo village, Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed this on Sunday in a statement.
He said the suspect, Nnamdi Anyaji, also attempted to take his own life after killing the mother, Mrs Dorathy Anyaji.
The PPRO said apart from arresting Anyaji, operatives attached to the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station also recovered one axe from the scene.

He said, “Preliminary information reveals that the squabble started when the suspect accused the deceased of dishonesty about the proceeds of a cassava business.
He said the suspect is in custody and under close monitoring so as not to commit suicide.
The Police will charge him to court after investigations are completed.
12 others arrested for sale of hard drugs
Meanwhile, Police also arrested 12 suspects selling and taking hard drugs in Umuokpala Village in Orumba North Local Government Area.
The police made the arrest during a raid in the area.
The PPRO said the operatives recovered sizeable quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, illicit drugs and other implicating items from the suspects.
“The suspects are: Ifeanyi Bernard, Emmanuel Ugwu, Thankgod Kelechi, Umeh Chidera, Aguiyi Onyeka, Onyeka Martin, Festus Ihezie,
“Chibundu Nicholas, Solomon Obiefule, Chibundu Daniel, Neke Shedrack and Nwazufu Kingsley all within the age 20 – 29 years.
“They have been handed over to Operatives of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for necessary action,” Ikenga added.
