Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, says the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, has reached 72% completion by the end of first quarter of 2025.
NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, gave the update at the 2025 Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum.
Talking at the event organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria, Ojulari put the value of the project at $2.8 billion.
Represented by Executive Vice President of Upstream, Engr. Udobong Ntia, Ojulari emphasized that the conference tackles critical challenges facing Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
He emphasized the energy issues facing Africa because more than 600 million individuals do not have access to electricity.
Ojulari stated that Nigeria’s oil and gas industry contributes over 85% of the country’s export earnings and is a major source of government revenue.
Consequently, he noted that the industry should spearhead efforts towards achieving a sustainable energy future.
He highlighted the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021, which has reshaped NNPC into a commercially-driven organization aimed at creating value.
As part of Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, which targets net-zero emissions by 2060, NNPC is broadening its Autogas initiative to encompass more than one million vehicles by 2026.
The theme of this year’s Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum is “Driving Energy Sustainability Through Technology, Policy, and Supply Chain Excellence.”
