Anambra state Police Commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu on Tuesday disclosed that no fewer than 200 suspects had been arrested in the state since he assumed office six months ago.
Briefing reporters on the achievements of the command so far at the Police headquarters, Amawbia, the CP said the suspects included cultists, separatist agitators and armed robbers.
He said the Command has destroyed five criminal camps of hoodlums in the state, while over 300 arms, 20 explosives, more than 1000 ammunition, and more than 30 vehicles were recovered within the period.
According to him, the command had secured convictions of more than 100 suspects on cases bordering sexual assualt, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other voilent crimes
Greatest security challenges
Orutugu however listed kidnappings and battle with other criminal elements in the state as the greatest challenge in the state.
He said, “One of the notable successes was the re-arrest of the suspect involved in the kidnapping and murder of Hon Justice Azuka.
“This breakthrough underscores our unwavering resolve to ensure that perpetrators of heinous crimes are brought to justice, no matter how long it takes.

“The Command has explored the use of Alternative dispute resolution to resolve so many communal crises including the boundary dispute between Ikenga and Isiokwe villages in Umueri and Aguleri and others
“Furthermore, the Command has leveraged on the Platform of Police Officers’ wives Association’s (POWA) efforts to promote a positive Police – Community Relationship with the people of Anambra State.
“Through this partnership, the Command has actively involved in various initiatives, including Empowering women through skills training and economic empowerment programs.
“The command has also provided support to Police officers and their families through counselling and welfare services, organizing community outreach programs and charitable initiatives.”
