Police in Anambra state have confirmed death of a security operative in an exchange gun battle with hoodlums in Umunze community, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.
Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this in a statement said the gunmen also set ablaze five operational vehicles of the operatives.
He added that some part of the security office were also razed by the hoodlums.
He said the officer lost his life to the criminals while attempting to resist the gunmen.
Ikenga said, “The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of today 5th June 2025 where the suspected armed men attacked the vigilante’s office at Umunze and set five of their operational vehicles ablaze.
“The Security Operatives in an attempt to resist the gunmen during the gun duel recorded a fatal injury on one of the Security Operatives.
“Some part of the security office also got burnt by the hoodlums.
“Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu has condemned the attack on vigilante operatives in Umunze Community, Orumba South Local Government Area emphasizing the need for community support to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Given the above, the Police-led Joint Security Force has taken over the scene and seeks collaborative efforts of local communities on ongoing onslaught operations in the area to ensure those responsible for the attack are held accountable.”
