The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called for urgent investigations into the death of a Nigerian national, Daniel Eheri.Eheri reportedly died while in the custody of Luxembourg Police, Grand-Ducale.

NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement condemned circumstances surrounding Eheri’s death.

She expressed condolences to his family and the Nigerian community in Luxembourg.

Dabiri-Erewa pledged her Commission’s collaboration with Nigeria’s Embassy in Belgium to pursue justice and full disclosure from the Luxembourg authorities.

NiDCOM had earlier received a petition from the Nigerian Community in Luxembourg, raising serious concerns over possible extrajudicial killing.

Coordinator, Nigerian Community in Luxembourg, Sunday Adekolu signed the petition titled “Case of an Extrajudicial Killing of a Nigerian by the Police Authority of Luxembourg”.

It claimed that Eheri, arrested on February 10, 2025 in possession of foodstuffs, died less than 24 hours later.

“Late Eheri Daniel was a Nigerian with an untainted record and a legal residence permit,” Adekolu wrote in the petition.

He urged the Nigerian government to intervene to prevent further occurrences of such incidents.

The petition noted that Nigeria’s Ambassador to Belgium, Obinna Onowu had written twice to the authorities on the matter.

“The ambassador’s letters have gone unanswered.

“We fear this silence may indicate a lack of transparency in the handling of the case,” Adekolu alleged.
