Couple arrested for alleged child trafficking in Abia

Police Command in Abia State has arrested a couple for allegedly trafficking twelve children.

Police operatives arrested the couple – 42-year old Sunday Emefo and his 49-year wife, Blessing Emefo, on the 19th of this month.

This followed credible intelligence which revealed that they were operating an illegal motherless babies’ home in their apartment at Ikot Ekpene Road Aba.

A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the Police Commissioner, Danladi Isa, notes that the couple was in possession of the children who are between 6 months and 14 years.

It reads, “The rescued children have been safely handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for custody.

The statement says operatives at the state CID Umuahia are still interrogating the suspects and will charge them to court at the conclusion of investigation.

It restates the commitment of the Command to ensuring the reduction of crime and criminality in the state. 

“We advise the public to stay security-conscious and ensure children’s safety. Do not leave children with unfamiliar persons, and report suspicious persons with children to the Police or use our hotlines.

The statement also assures residents of the Command’s resolve to the reduction of crime and criminality in the state.
