Over 50 countries contact US to negotiate tariffs – Official

US President, Donald Trump

Over 50 countries have contacted President Donald Trump for negotiation after he announced sweeping tariffs this week, the US’s National Economic Council director Kevin Hassett says.

Indonesia and Taiwan say they won’t impose retaliatory tariffs.

However, Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu is heading to Washington DC for trade talks with Trump.

This comes after a 10 percent “baseline” tariff on most US imports kicked in yesterday.

UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, warns “the world as we knew it has gone” and says the government is ready to step in to protect the British economy.

Experts warn that the tariffs could push up prices for consumers, but Trump urges the US to “hang tough” after market turmoil.
