The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 20, 2026, for the conduct of bye-elections in six states.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced the date on Friday in Abuja during the swearing-in of a new National Commissioner, Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa (rtd.).
He assured Nigerians of the commission’s commitment to conducting credible elections.
Yakubu said the elections would be held alongside the Ekiti governorship poll and would fill vacant seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and State Assemblies in Enugu, Nasarawa, Rivers, Ondo, Kebbi and Kano states.
In her response, Malafa expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and pledged to contribute to strengthening the commission’s mandate.
