The Abia State Government, in collaboration with international organisations, has trained 4,000 youths—including persons with special needs—in garment design and other vocational skills to improve their livelihoods.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at Enyimba Stadium, Aba, Governor Alex Otti announced plans to launch an integrated campaign to promote Made-in-Aba products to meet global standards.
He explained that the initiative will focus on fashion and lifestyle goods as part of the state’s broader strategy to expand opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Governor Otti, who described the training as the Fashion Future Programme (FFP), revealed that arrangements are underway to train an additional 8,000 youths by 2027.
He also called on investors to take advantage of the growing opportunities in Aba.
The governor emphasized the importance of inclusive growth through collective participation and continuous skills development.
He urged beneficiaries to maximise the training and share their knowledge with others.
Earlier, a representative of one of the programme’s partners, Mrs. Irunna Ejibe-Isichei, described the Fashion Future Programme as a transformative initiative positioning Aba as a major production hub for African and global markets.
Some beneficiaries described the programme as a life-changing opportunity and expressed gratitude to the organisers for empowering them.
