The Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONet) has congratulated Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo on his inauguration for a second term.

The network described his re-election as a clear endorsement of his leadership and the progress recorded over the past four years.

In a statement signed by its Chairman and Non-State Actors’ Co-Chair, Open Government Partnership (OGP), Prince Chris Azor, the group acknowledged notable improvements in road infrastructure and urban renewal.

It noted that ongoing projects have enhanced mobility and opened up economic corridors across the state.

ACSONet also commended the administration’s strategic investments around public assets, which it said have strengthened Anambra’s commercial and economic outlook.

In the education sector, the network highlighted the expansion of access through free education, improved school facilities, and teacher recruitment, describing these efforts as key steps toward restoring confidence in the public school system.

On healthcare, the group praised the revitalisation of primary healthcare services, recruitment of personnel, establishment of new general hospitals, a trauma centre, and the introduction of telemedicine, all of which have improved access to care, particularly at the grassroots.

Youth development initiatives also received commendation, with ACSONet pointing to the impact of the “One Youth, Two Skills” programme in equipping thousands of young people with practical skills and creating pathways to entrepreneurship.

It further described the Solution Innovation District as a growing hub for digital skills, innovation, and startups, positioning Anambra as an emerging player in the knowledge economy.

While applauding these achievements, the civil society group urged the governor to intensify efforts in agriculture as a key driver of job creation and food security.

Transparent procurement system

ACSONet also called for improved transparency in public procurement, timely fulfilment of counterpart funding obligations, and stronger implementation frameworks to ensure policies deliver measurable results.

The group emphasised the need to deepen social protection programmes to support vulnerable populations, reduce inequality, and ensure that development is inclusive and widely felt across communities.

It further urged the administration to sustain and strengthen the Open Government Partnership (OGP) framework already institutionalised in the state.

The group noted that it offers a practical pathway for transparency, citizen participation, and improved service delivery.

It stressed that continued collaboration with civil society organisations would enhance public trust and attract development partnerships.

Quoting former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the group noted that “good governance is perhaps the single most important factor in eradicating poverty and promoting development,” urging the government to remain guided by this principle.

The network congratulated the governor and his team for their achievements so far expressing optimism that the second term would be defined by consolidation, innovation, stronger institutions, and inclusive growth toward building a liveable and prosperous mega city.
