Anambra State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has reiterated its commitment in protecting and promoting welfare of every local government staff in the state.
The member three in the Commission, Prof Ngozi Ewuim gave the assurance during a chat with journalists after inspecting the 2026 promotion examination which had 356 staff members of the local government areas in the state in attendance.
She commended the high level of maturity exhibited by the staff members during the examination periods.
“The Commission is committed to ensuring timely promotion of the local government staff members and will not hesitate to ensure that those who work hard and understand what they are doing passed the promotion examination,” she added.
While extolling the sterling leadership qualities of the Chairman of the Commission, Barr Vin. Ezeaka, Ewuim, revealed that the staff would still undergo oral interview as part of the promotion exercise.
Also speaking, Public Relations Officer of the Commission, Comrade Chidi Okoye, who is moving from level 15 to leave 16, thanked God for the success of the promotion examination.
“Well, we thank God, at least we have done our best, so the remaining shall be committed to God.
Promotion not a right
“Promotion ordinarily is not necessarily the right of the civil servants because they must have to earn it.
“If you don’t merit it, if you don’t work for it or work hard to earn the promotion, there is no way you can have it. So, promotion cannot necessarily be seen as a right,” he said.
He lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to better the lots of state workforce.
Okoye commended the resilient efforts of the Commission’s Chairman, especially in conducting promotion exams as and when due.
On her part, Mrs Gloria Oby Nwosu, who is also moving from level 15 to level 16 described the promotion examination as worth seating for and expressed satisfaction with the contents of the promotion examination.
“We answered what we suppose to answer during the exam; before any civil servant could move to any level he or she must seat for a promotion examination.
“The examination is just to test our knowledge and how we are going to work in our various local government areas when we are promoted to the next level”, she echoed.
Nwosu called on governments at all levels to make promotion examination mandatory to every civil servant and ensure that there was no unnecessary delay in promoting those due for the promotion, especially those who know what they are doing.
Conducting the promotion examination, Secretary, LGSC, Comrade Frank Anatogu, charged the staff to comply with the engagement rules of the examination, assuring them of enough technical officers that could attend to them when the need arises.
“This examination is computer-based, start with the ones you know and jump the ones you do not know and attend to them later”, he advised the staff.
