The Anambra State has recorded 102,643 free deliveries as at the end of February 2025 under its Free Antenatal Care and Delivery Policy.

The policy was initiated by Prof Chukwuma Soludo administration in Sept. 2023 for pregnant women in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, disclosed this in Awka, while reacting to criticisms that Governor Soludo ‘pays no attention to stomach infrastructure’.

He said that the state also recorded 343 caesarean sections.

He recalled that the state under Governor Soludo had employed over 1,000 healthcare officials.

“Each of the health officials- consultants, doctors, and nurses receive half a million, almost quarter of a million and over N100,000 respectively, as a monthly salary,” he said.

Dr Obidike noted that the Soludo administration had recruited over 9,000 workers who would remain in the state budget till they retire and begin to receive pensions.

Obidike said through 1 Youth 2 Skills Acquisition Programme, the Soludo administration has trained and empowered thousands of Anambra youths.

“There is no government ever since the creation of this state that invested in human capital development like Gov. Soludo.”

Governor Soludo’s free maternal service programme has put smiles on the faces of many families in Anambra.

There was a man who fled the state because he thought he could not pay his wife’s medical bills.

His wife was delivered of quadruplets through caesarian section in a government hospital.

The man came back when he was told that government hospitals in Anambra do not collect a penny for delivery.
