The Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications.

The decision was taken at the institution’s 433rd Senate meeting after the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities found that the affected students submitted forged credentials during the admission process.

In a statement published in the university’s weekly bulletin, BUK said the action aligns with its academic regulations, which prohibit such misconduct.

The institution noted that the offence violates Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes expulsion.

The university added that the affected students were drawn from different departments and academic levels, stressing that the move is part of ongoing efforts to sanitise its academic records and uphold institutional standards.

In a separate case, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, over alleged involvement in the physical assault of invigilators during an examination.

According to the university, the incident disrupted the examination process and violated its code of student discipline.

BUK management reiterated its commitment to maintaining academic integrity, warning that breaches of its rules will continue to attract strict sanctions.
