Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers and cultists in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this on Sunday, stating that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, carried out the arrest at a criminal hideout.

Ikenga said the police are investigating the suspects for possible involvement in the gruesome murder of the late President General of Ogidi.

He explained that the operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the hideout on March 21, 2026, at about 1:46 p.m., leading to the arrest of Francis Chukwuka Anene (46), Emmanuel Obi (29), and Okoye Chinonso (35), who allegedly serves in a security agency.

The police recovered two locally made Beretta pistols, four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and a suspected fake security agency identity card from the suspects.

Preliminary investigations

Preliminary investigations, according to Ikenga, reveal that the suspects belong to a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and terrorising residents of Ogidi and surrounding communities.

In a separate operation, police personnel attached to the Ozubulu Division recovered a suspected stolen white trailer tanker along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in the early hours of March 17, 2026.

Ikenga said the vehicle, which had no registration number, was found abandoned with its key in the ignition.

He added that the Command has launched efforts to trace the owner of the tanker and uncover the circumstances surrounding its abandonment, while investigations continue on both incidents.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining safety and security, urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support police operations.
