Surulere stakeholders reject Desmond Elliot’s 4th-term Lagos Assembly bid

Some stakeholders in Surulere Constituency I have rejected the reported plan by Mr Desmond Elliot to seek a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The stakeholders, who spoke in separate interviews said the constituency deserved fresh representation in 2027.

They argued that allowing a fourth term would limit opportunities for other qualified aspirants and undermine internal party democracy.

A community leader, Mr Adewale Johnson, said that while Elliot had contributed to the constituency, it was time to allow new ideas and leadership to emerge.

“We appreciate his efforts, but no one person should monopolise the seat. Others should be given the chance to serve,” he said.

Similarly, a youth leader, Miss Kemi Adebayo, urged political parties to ensure a level playing field during the nomination process.

According to her, promoting inclusiveness and fairness will strengthen democratic values at the grassroots.

However, some residents expressed mixed reactions, noting that the lawmaker’s performance should be the basis for any future ambition.

Efforts to get Elliot’s reaction to the development were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
