The wife of the Chukwuma Soludo, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has called on Ndị Anambra and the wider Igbo community to take pride in their mother tongue.
In her message on the 2026 Mother Language Day, Mrs Soludo described Igbo language as a priceless cultural treasure that must be protected and celebrated.
Mrs. Soludo said no one can preserve a language better than those who own it, stressing that there is absolutely no shame in speaking one’s native tongue or showcasing its uniqueness.
She urged the people to speak their mother language boldly and unapologetically, noting that its gradual disappearance is largely due to a lack of appreciation and celebration by its own speakers.
“Our culture is incomplete if it does not reflect the distinctiveness of the language that binds us together as a people,” she said, adding that language remains a powerful symbol of identity and belonging.
According to her, a mother tongue is an emblem of socio-cultural participation and a defining mark of who a people are.
She encouraged everyone not to be discouraged or silenced, but to speak, cherish, and proudly promote their language at every opportunity.
Declaring her deep love for her heritage, she affirmed in Igbo: “Abụ m ezigbo onye Igbo hụrụ asụsụ ya n’anya nke ukwuu!”
