The West African Examinations Council, (WAEC) has introduced Computer-Based Test, (CBT), in conducting the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates.
The Council has also introduced variations in examination papers, whereby two candidates will not have same question on each number.
These are all in a bid to curb incidents of examination malpractice in the conduct of WAEC examinations.
Head of Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Amos Dangut, announcing this at a news briefing in Lagos, said it will further boost WAEC’s integrity.
According to Dangut, these initiatives demonstrate the commitment of the West Africa examination body to embracing the new paradigm shift in the education sector.
He explained that the paradigm shift was geared towards upholding the academic and moral integrity of the National Policy on Education.
Warning against malpractices
Dr. Dangut said at least 574 schools perpetrating examination fraud had been reported to relevant authorities this year and have been sanctioned accordingly.
“Any examination centre caught perpetrating examination fraud would either cease to exist as an examination centre to all examining bodies or be sanctioned for a period of time depending on the severity of the offence.
Therefore, he called on parents to encourage their wards to study hard for the forthcoming examination rather than aiding them in examination malpractice.
He also warned the online examination fraudsters to desist or face punishments as stipulated by relevant laws.
The WAEC boss called for assistance of state governments and security operatives to ensure safe and secure examination environment.
Over 1.9 million school candidates from 23,554 schools will sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) this year.
