Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo said she was unaware that spraying money, including foreign currencies, at events was illegal in the country.
In a statement on Instagram, she explained her May 5 visit to the EFCC, which followed an invitation she received while in the UK.
EFCC officials questioned her about videos from her daughter’s wedding showing guests spraying money.
Ojo said she believed only mutilating the Naira was an offense.
According to her, she was surprised to learn that it is prohibited to spray any currency, including dollars.
She was released on that same day, saying that her lawyer would represent her if required again.
Urging Nigerians to stop the practice, she said, “Perhaps it’s time to reconsider this long-standing tradition.”
