The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, says he will respond appropriately to calls by his Bende constituents urging him to declare interest in the 2027 Abia State governorship election.

Kalu made the remarks during a surprise homecoming in Bende Town, where residents across party lines gathered in large numbers to urge him to vie for the state’s highest political office.

Residents of Bende Local Government Area, his hometown, hinged their appeal on his transparency, integrity, and people-centered projects during his tenure in the National Assembly.

Stakeholders including Chief Orji Udeagha, Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu, Professor Hagler Okorie, Chief Cosmos Ndukwe, and Mrs. Chisara Chijioke all on behalf of their people urged Kalu not to ignore the overwhelming support from his constituents.

Highlighting the event’s significance, the elders of Bende formally presented Chief Kalu with traditional war regalia, symbolizing home support and readiness for the political contest ahead.

The gesture underscored the community’s unity and preparedness to back their candidate for the forthcoming election.

Responding, the visibly elated Deputy Speaker said, “I am deeply honored by the confidence my people have shown in me.

“I can only respond to your call at the appropriate time and place, in accordance with the constitution.”

He described his visit to Bende as a special Easter celebration with his kinsmen and assured them that he would not disappoint their trust.

The Deputy Speaker’s reception in Bende reflects his enduring popularity and influence in his home constituency, signaling strong local momentum as political activities for the 2027 Abia governorship election begin to take shape.
