A former military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar has urged politicians to play politics without bitterness as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Abdulsalami made the call while speaking with journalists shortly after observing the two-rakat Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Minna Central Eid Prayer Ground in Niger State.

The former military ruler stressed the need for politicians and their supporters to embrace peaceful and rancour-free political activities to ensure credible and successful elections.

He also appealed to Nigerians to respect one another’s political differences in the interest of national unity and peaceful coexistence.

According to him, intolerance and political hostility could undermine the nation’s democratic process if not properly managed ahead of the elections.

Speaking on the security challenges facing parts of the country, Abdulsalami urged Nigerians not to relent in praying for divine intervention to complement the efforts of security personnel battling insurgency and other forms of insecurity.

He commended the sacrifices of troops in various theatres of operation and called for continued public support for the armed forces.
