World football governing body, FIFA, has reportedly approved the international allegiance switch of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo from England to Nigeria.
Okonkwo, who currently plays for Wrexham AFC, is now eligible to represent the Super Eagles in international competitions.
The 22-year-old shot-stopper, who was previously part of England’s youth setup, had long been linked with a potential switch to Nigeria, where he is eligible through his heritage.
The approval is expected to bolster Nigeria’s goalkeeping options ahead of upcoming international fixtures, as the national team continues to strengthen its squad.
Football analysts say Okonkwo’s addition could provide healthy competition within the team’s goalkeeping department, while also offering long-term stability for the position.
Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation are yet to make an official statement on the development.
