The Special Anti-Touting Squad for Anambra State (SASA) on Thursday destroyed hard drugs valued at over ₦80 million in various markets in Anambra state.

The destruction was carried out during enforcement operation against illicit drug activities in the commercial city of the state.

Speaking during the operation, Managing Director of SASA, Monday Nwokoye reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and touting.

He said the destroyed substances were seized from multiple locations including Nsugbe, Umuchu, Ojoto, Oba, Nkpor, Nkwelle Ezunaka, and Onitsha environs.

Underscoring the Agency’s firm commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing criminality across the State, Nwokoye emphasized that the destruction was deliberate and final, ensuring the drugs would not re-enter circulation.

He warned that individuals involved in the sale or consumption of illicit substances would face strict legal consequences.

“Drugs must stop in Anambra. Anyone caught will be dealt with decisively,” he stated.

He described drug dealers and distributors as criminals whose activities threaten public safety.

Nwokoye stressed that drug abuse fuels theft, violence and broader insecurity within communities.

He called on residents to actively support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities, noting that community cooperation remains essential in sustaining a safe environment.
