The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has received 145 Nigerian returnees from Benghazi, Libya.
The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, at about 8:27 p.m. aboard an Al Buraq Airlines flight under the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Head of NEMA Lagos Operations Office, Mr Mohammed Olatunde, and made available to newsmen.
Olatunde said the programme was facilitated by the IOM in collaboration with the Federal Government.
He said the returnees comprised 122 adults, including 46 males and 76 females.
According to him, 29 children were also received, consisting of 13 males and 16 females, while 27 infants made up of 17 males and 10 females were recorded.
“Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation of the returnees on arrival to ensure proper identification and facilitate their reintegration.
“The returnees were provided with food, potable water, medical care and ambulance services for those requiring attention.
“Other support services included luggage handling, logistics assistance and counselling.
Olatunde said the measures were aimed at ensuring a safe, dignified and coordinated reception process for the returnees.
