The Police Command in Cross River has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Malime Ejor, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Moshie Igu, over claims of infidelity.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday at about 6 a.m. at a farm in Nwang Village, Ekajuk community in Ogoja Local Government Area of the state.
A resident of the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a heated argument ensued between the suspect and the deceased over allegations of extramarital affairs, which later escalated into violence.
The source alleged that the suspect attacked the woman with a machete, inflicting fatal injuries before he was overpowered by some youths in the area.
“We heard noise and rushed to the scene, but could not stop him as he had already attacked her. The youths later apprehended him and handed him over to security operatives,” the resident said.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect was in custody and that investigation had commenced.
Eitokpah assured that justice would be served.
