The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Anambra State Chapter has disclosed that preparations are in top gear for commemoration of World Tuberculosis Day in the state.
State Chairman, Dr Victor Ughaerumba and Assistant Secretary, Dr Favour Okere in a statement said activities lined up for the commemoration which holds every 24th March include Abs/Blaze Fm Radio sensitization programme.
He added that a public health awareness campaign/visit has been slated to hold at Cattle Slaughter House, Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State on Tuesday, 24th March, 2026 by 7:00am.
The State Chairman who described the theme for this year’s commemoration “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver” as bold, hopeful and necessary, called for collaborative action among stakeholders to fight the disease.
“But achieving this requires that no source of infection is ignored, no system gap is left unaddressed, and no community is left behind.
“Because when we protect animal health, we protect human health. And when we strengthen our systems, we secure our future.
Ughaerumba identified areas of intervention measures to include, establishment of modern abattoirs, functional veterinary diagnostic centres, strengthen disease surveillance (one health approach) and policy support/strategic investment.
