Soludo appoints new CMD for COOUTH

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved the appointment of Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku.

A statement issued on Thursday, March 12, 2026 says the appointment takes effect today, Friday March 13, 2026.

Dr. Umeakuewulu, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with a focus on gynaecologic oncology and women’s health, currently serves at the National Hospital, Abuja, where she has contributed to clinical care and specialist medical services.

She is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOG), and the International College of Surgeons (FICS).

The statement signed by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, explains that the appointment is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to strengthen leadership and service delivery in the health sector.

Dr. Umeakuewulu is expected to provide administrative and clinical leadership at the teaching hospital as it continues to serve as a major referral centre in Anambra State.

The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, located in Amaku, Awka, provides medical services, training for health professionals, and support for research in the state’s health sector.
