Lead City University’s law programme remains suspended, admissions invalid – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that the Law Faculty of Lead City University Ibadan remains under a five-year suspension and is not authorised to admit students into the programme.

The board said it had received several complaints accusing it of negligence over the alleged admission of candidates into the university’s Law Faculty despite the ongoing suspension.

In a statement, JAMB clarified that the admissions in question were not processed through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the only platform approved for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

According to the board, any admission that is not processed through CAPS is invalid and cannot be recognised.

JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the institution is not permitted to admit candidates into the Law programme until the suspension period expires.

He stressed that the board had no record of the admissions being circulated and therefore considers them void.

The board also warned candidates against accepting admission offers outside the CAPS platform.

JAMB noted that it has repeatedly advised prospective students that any admission not processed and approved through CAPS is not legitimate.

It added that candidates who accept such offers do so at their own risk and cannot make any valid claim regarding the admission.

The board urged affected candidates to disregard the offers and apply for the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in order to pursue legitimate admission through the approved process.

JAMB emphasised that admissions conducted outside CAPS will not be recognised under any circumstances.

The Council of Legal Education (CLE) in June 2024 suspended the law programme of the institution for five years due to several regulatory violations.
