Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo on Monday reopened New Motorcycle Spare Parts Market, also known as Nkwo Nnewi, after one week of closure.
The governor had sealed the market through his Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Hon Evaristus Uba last Monday following non adherence to government’s order on abolition of Monday sit at home order.
Uba who was on a visit to the market with other officials, had threatened extension of the mary closure if the traders failed to turn up for Monday business after one week.
The Nation gathered that the market was unsealed after the chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon Echezona Anazodo visited the market and was impressed with huge compliance by the traders.
Anazodo said: “I’m happy to know today that traders complied with the order to resume for business. I want to believe that if there was even half of this turn out last week, the market would not have been shut down.
“But now most of you have complied, we will go round the market and seal the shops of traders who failed open. We don’t want a situation where the entire market would be shutdown just because of few traders, instead, those traders should bear their brunt themselves.”
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports have it that a market in Ihiala Local Government Area has also been shut down over non-compliance with government order to shun sit at home.
A source said government officials who arrived the market on Monday witnessed most shopsrunder lock and keys, prompting the shutting down of the market for one week.
