Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state has extended humanitarian support to accident victims and patients in various hospitals in Onitsha, commercial city of the state.
The command also distributed foods, drinks and other relief materials to the less privileged including tricycle operators, beggars, among others.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Onitsha Unit Commander, ACC Godwin Odoh said the gesture, in collaboration with Lovebite Food and Beverages was in the spirit of love associated with the Lenten season.
He said the corps, beyond rescuing crash victims, also identify with them after by visiting them and other patients in the hospitals to show care and provide support.
Odoh expressed appreciation to members of the public for their support in ensuring safety and free flow of traffic particularly along the River Niger corridor during last year’s Christmas and New Year season.
He also commended personnel of the Command for the role they played in ensuring zero traffic crash and free movement during the yuletide
Continuous exercise
He said, “We visited the hospitals to identify with the accident victims and to give a sense of belonging to other vulnerable members of the society.
“It is a continuous exercise aimed at giving hope to victims.
“We also appreciate our personnel every year at the end of operation zero traffic crash by saying ‘well done’.
“The Niger Bridge normally experiences gridlock during Yuletide, but last year, we tackled it headlong. All our staff were deployed and they worked day and night.
“So the Command deemed it necessary that these personnel be appreciated and that is why we are organising this end of year party/dubar.
We are organizing this ‘first quarter dubar’ in collaboration with a sponsor, the CEO of Lovebite Food and Beverages, Chief Innocent Nwosu.
“We distributed food, water and other relief materials to the vulnerable ones as a way extending humanitarian support,” he said.
Also speaking, Public Relations Officer of Onitsha Unit Command, Kenechukwu Chidoka, said over 1,000 less privileged, tricycle operators, accident victims and others were presented with gift items.
Continuous exercise
The CEO of Lovebite Food and Beverages, Chief Innocent Nwosu expressed satisfaction with the love extended to the less privileged, stressing that “to love is to share”.
Nwosu, represented by Nnenna Okoronkwo assured the gesture would be a continuous practice.
Manager, Toronto Hospital, Osy Mbelu commended the Onitsha FRSC and Lovebite for extending love to accident victims, patients and staff of the hospital.
